Can I Get a Grant to go to College?

If you are like so many others, you want to pursue a higher level of education and skills training, but the cost of doing so can feel overwhelming. For many students wishing to attend a career training program or a post-secondary school, the costs of attending is simply prohibitive. Tuition, books, and living expenses all add up quickly, and many students find it difficult to juggle a job with their class schedule, leaving them in an untenable situation. So what to do? You may have considered student loans, which are a great option, but can leave students with a burden of debt after graduation. What about grants? Many students would be surprised to learn that there are federal grants available to students just like you.
The Workforce Investment Opportunity Act (WIOA) is a federal program designed to help job seekers access employment, education, training, and support services to succeed in the labor market. The WIOA also aims to match employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy. The WIOA act was passed by a wide bipartisan majority in Congress, and signed into law by President Barack Obama in July 2014. What does this mean for you? It means that you can apply for a federal grant to help you pay for your career training!
The Workforce Investment Opportunity Act (WIOA) aims to provide those in need with access to high quality training, and to enhance workforce services for the unemployed and other job seekers. The WIOA helps job seekers acquire industry-recognized credentials for in-demand jobs by emphasizing and encouraging access to training programs that lead to industry recognized post-secondary credentials.
Through the Workforce Investment Opportunity Act (WIOA), students interested in career-training services can apply for grants of up to $9,000. After attending an orientation with WIOA, qualified students may apply and go through the approval process. Depending on income, home situation, and work situation, students will be eligible for up to the full $9,000 grant. While likely only a portion of your potential cost of a training program, this grant money can make an immediate, measurable impact on a student’s ability to afford school. What difference would $9,000 make to you?

One option for your WIOA grant-funded training program? IntelliTec College’s Albuquerque campus offers an excellent Computer Systems Technician Program that has been approved by the WIOA to receive such grants. According to Fred Crum, the Director of Education at IntelliTec Albuquerque, “This is such a huge benefit to potential students as it lowers the amount of federal student loans they may have to take, or covers what could potentially be an out of pocket cost.”
The Computer Systems Technician Program at IntelliTec can be completed in as few as 10.5 months! Students in the Computer Systems Tech program learn how to set up Internet connections and how to establish different types of networks including LAN (local area network) and WAN (wide area network). Students also learn how to establish and maintain routers and servers in optimal functioning condition. Through hands-on learning from industry professionals, students learn how to ensure systems are functioning, and when systems malfunction, how to find solutions quickly without paralyzing the other computers and equipment in the network. IntelliTec students learn these technical skills, as well as the soft skills necessary to provide help and advice to people and organizations using computer software or equipment.
