Now Offered at IntelliTec College in Albuquerque!

Are you interested in a career as a Massage Therapist? Massage has been used since ancient times to relieve pain and promote healing. As a career, massage therapy can be highly fulfilling as you work to help others and relieve their pain. If you are interested in health and holistic healing, and you enjoy helping others, massage therapy could be a rewarding career choice for you. IntelliTec College offers a comprehensive, thorough training program that can prepare you for certification as a professional massage therapist in as few as 9 months. Beginning January 11th, 2021, IntelliTec College will expand their massage therapy program to the Albuquerque, New Mexico campus to better serve that community.

Massage therapists use therapeutic touch to provide relaxation, relieve pain and stress, and rehabilitate injuries. Learning massage therapy is hands-on, and training requires hundreds of hours of practice. At IntelliTec College, students study both the theory and knowledge behind the art of massage, as well as the technical skills to properly perform different modalities of massage. Students in the Massage Therapy program study human anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, pathology, nutrition, massage theory and history. In addition, IntelliTec’s program includes a College and Career Readiness course to help prepare students for their career training, as well as a Clinical Massage and Marketing course, designed to show students how to market and advertise a massage business, interact with clients, build a client base, and more.

At IntelliTec, students are taught a wide range of massage techniques and modalities, designed to increase circulation, relieve tension, reduce  stress, relieve  anxiety, improve sleep, and promote  relaxation throughout the entire body, as well as many other benefits. Massage techniques and modalities taught include deep tissue massage, injury massage/rehabilitation techniques, myofascial techniques, neuromuscular massage, Swedish (classic Western) massage, Russian sports massage, Shiatsu, sports massage, and trigger point therapy. Towards the end of their program, students will have the opportunity to practice their skills in a real-world environment by participating in one of IntelliTec’s on-campus community massage clinics. Hands-on experience builds the students’ skills and confidence, and allows the student to begin accumulating the training hours required for professional certification.

The Massage Therapy program at IntelliTec is designed to be achievable in as few as 9 months. Upon completion of the program, students are prepared to sit for professional certifications including the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEX), administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards. IntelliTec graduates will also be prepared to sit for the Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork Exam administered by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB). Nationally-recognized industry certifications such as these demonstrate to potential employers the level of the job candidate’s skill and knowledge, and can help get you hired.

Many people choose massage therapy as a career because they enjoy helping others, and providing relief and relaxation through healthful and holistic techniques. Many people also choose massage therapy as a career because it offers flexibility and a wide range of lifestyle options. As a massage therapist, you may choose to be a self-employed independent contractor, or you may decide to find employment in a variety of settings including spas and fitness centers, medical practices, physical therapy or chiropractic offices. Some massage therapists even work for hotels, resorts, cruise ships, or with sports teams. Massage therapists are often able to choose how many days a week to work, or how many massages per week to perform, allowing the freedom to create a schedule that works with their life. This flexibility appeals to parents of young children, and people who wish to pursue other passions or part-time jobs as well. Annual income for massage therapists varies by experience, location, and type of practice, but massage therapy is a rapidly expanding field and certified massage therapists are in high demand nationwide.
