IntelliTec’s Automotive Technician program is designed to equip students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills they need to be successful in entry-level positions. Students learn automotive theory and technology through the most innovative, interactive learning models available today. Under the supervision of experienced and dedicated faculty, IntelliTec students learn hands-on skills through on-campus labs, while receiving digital instruction through the innovative, user-friendly Electude e-learning system.
In IntelliTec’s Automotive Technician program, students learn to work with brakes, suspension systems, manual and automatic transmissions, climate control systems, emissions systems, and starting and charging systems. Students learn engine performance, as well as how to run and interpret diagnostic and troubleshooting routines. A course on Light Vehicle Diesel Engines teaches students diesel engine function and operation, providing the skills needed to diagnose, test, and service common diesel electronic fuel injection systems, engine electronic systems, and diesel charging and starting systems.
Students have the choice between a 15-month Automotive Technician certificate program or a 19.5-month Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) degree program. The AOS degree program adds fundamental business skills to the 15-month Automotive Technician certificate program’s technical education training. For the AOS degree, required general education courses add an additional 24 weeks to the program length, and include Introduction to Business, Business Communications, and Critical Thinking. All general education courses may be completed 100% online. The general education courses enhance students’ technical training by enabling them to develop quality verbal/written communication skills and enhanced critical thinking skills, making them more well-rounded professionals and more qualified job candidates.
Graduates of IntelliTec’s Automotive Technician programs will be prepared to test for professional certifications including entry level ASE certifications, the EPA Section 609 Refrigerant Recovery & Recycling certification, and the Pro Cut Train Smart Level 1 certification.
